Exercise equipment At Heart Care Healthy Living we have a wide range of exercise equipment that can be used to help keep your heart, lungs and muscles healthy. Our Gym Equipment As many of our patients suffer from either heart or lung conditions we have many pieces of equipment that can help strengthen and improve their function. We have a wide range of cardiovascular equipment which has the main aim of working the heart and lungs by increasing both heart rate and your frequency of breathing. If kept up consistently this has the benefits of reducing the workload on the heart, making daily tasks easier, improving blood pressure and managing cholesterol levels. Cardiovascular Exercise can be performed on various pieces of equipment at heart care, with the cross trainer and arm ergometer offering the ability to do cardiovascular exercise to those with reduced functional capacity and the bikes, rowers or even the walking track for those who are more mobile. Weights & Resistance Equipment At heart care we also have a range of free weights and resistance machines. Resistance exercise aims to put the muscle under stress to then cause it to grow. This in turn can lead to improved balance, strength and physical function. The most benefit would be found by following a balanced resistance training program, allowing all major muscle groups to be targeted. A combination of both types of exercise is best as regular exercise can help to control blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol, reduce the workload on the heart and CV system and improve functional capacity and muscular endurance. If you would like to add in any new exercises to your routine in the gym please let one of the exercise physiologists know and they will be happy to help.
