Helping Heart Care
If heart disease is a war, then Heart Care is serving the frontlines. Our cardiac rehabilitation and after-care Units continue to operate in one of the worst areas for coronary heart disease in England. The West Midlands and specifically Walsall, has one of the highest incidences of coronary heart disease. Obesity and physical inactivity are major problems, and while death rates caused by heart disease are now only just falling, the rate is still too high.
The hearts in the heart of England are in trouble.
Heart Care was established almost twenty years ago, by the fund-raising efforts and tremendous goodwill of local Rotary clubs. With the advice and guidance of two local doctors who saw the need for this service, Heart Care was opened. From inception, Heart Care as operated as a registered charity.
Fund-raising, therefore, plays an important part in our survival. All medical and exercise equipment is purchased by donations. All after-care programmes and re-assessments, both in Walsall and Streetly, are paid for by fund-raising events and client donations.
We owe much to our patients and their families, who generously give to Heart Care – and to the local community who support activities such as our Christmas raffle and Sponsored Walk. The local business community also plays an important role; donations of gifts-in-kind and sponsorship in our corporate events such as our upcoming Dog Racing Night and Golf Tournament, help Heart Care to continue its cardiac programmes.
Heart Care is a valuable community resource. Aside from providing daily cardiac care, we undertake research and work closely with the PCT (Primary Care Trust) to look at ways of improving services to our patients. We provide information to the general public on heart disease and work to promote healthy lifestyle changes and choices.
Heart Care needs your help to continue its work.
A donation to Heart Care will help provide after-care programmes or will help us to purchase medical supplies such as ECG paper or cholesterol sticks, or even a new blood pressure monitors, as well as exercise equipment.
